In 2002 I started the ‘perfect job I never knew I always wanted’ when I became the librarian for Sycamore Elementary School in Holt, MI. Organizing space comes naturally to me, and I loved the creative element working with young kids and books provided.
My husband, Andy, was an elementary teacher at this time, and we loved working in the same industry. Many hours were spent at garage sales looking for books for his classroom or my library. During this time we had our son, Tate and daughter, Abigail. For almost a decade it was a beautiful arrangement.
In 2010 I began servicing 1.5 elementary schools, and I knew I was headed towards covering 2. Then in 2011, Andy became a principal, throwing our division of home responsibilities completely off-balance. In the next year we sold our house, moved our kids to his school district, Andy completed the coursework for his administration certification, and my father unexpectedly passed away. Something needed to change if I was going to be the type of person I wanted to be, so at the end of the 2011/12 school year I left the library.
Fast forward 6.5 years and I find myself back in the library once again. During the hiatus I became a certified life-coach, and a licensed real estate agent, but I always hoped for a chance to return to the library. Finally, in 2019 I was able to do just that. I now serve Horizon Elementary in Holt 2.5 days a week. I love every minute of interacting with students, serving teachers, organizing space, and creatively weaving it all around my favorite stories!
